The Secretariat of the Zhongguancun Global High-level Think Tank Alliance (hereinafter referred to as ZGCTA) and the Center for Think Tank Studies (CTTS) of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) jointly held the Seminar on Chinese Think Tanks Report (2025) on the afternoon of June 19, 2025. Jiang Yang, Deputy Director of the Office of Think Tank Operation and Research Management of the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, Zhao Zhengguo, Deputy Director of the Think Tank System Development Department (Administration of the China Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians) of the National Academy of Innovation Strategy, Qi Zilong, Director of the Department of Science & Technology Management and Cooperation of the Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wei Wei, Director of the Decision-making and Research Center of the Liaowang Think Tank, together with many other experts attended the seminar which was co-chaired by Li Junkai, ZGCTA Secretary-General and Director of the International and Regional Cooperation Center of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology (BJAST), and Tao Xidong, Deputy Director and researcher of CTTS, SASS.
The Chinese Think Tanks Report, a flagship project of CTTS, is an annual masterpiece which systematically analyzes the status, development path and evaluation research of Chinese think tanks, according to Li Junkai. Focused on the development of Chinese science and technology think tanks, this seminar constitutes a platform thoroughly built by ZGCTA to support in-depth exchanges and close cooperation among think tanks, jointly raising the level and capabilities of Chinese S&T think tanks. It is hoped that free discussions and brainstorm at the seminar would contribute valuable wisdom and strength to the development of Chinese science and technology think tanks.
Experts shared observations on the connotation, characteristics and functions of S&T think tanks, development trends and features of Chinese think tanks in science and technology, new initiatives and dynamics for the advance of Chinese high-level S&T think tanks, as well as challenges and opportunities. Many forward-looking and practical suggestions were put forward at the seminar.
In his summery, Tao Xidong expressed sincere gratitude to experts for their active participation and valuable insights. Closing the event, Li Junkai indicated that ZGCTA would continue to serve as a bridge to deepen cooperation and exchanges among its member units, pulling together efforts for the advancement of Chinese science and technology think tanks.
